Lokketona is located 10km North of Bergen, Norway. The project consists of four detached houses with shared parking and bicycle storage. The site is a steep, rocky outcrop with sweeping views over the city fjord.
It was important to find ‘natural’ placements for the four houses to reduce the impact of the project on the site. Each house is therefore orientated slightly differently, following the natural contours. This also ensures privacy whilst allowing large expanses of glass.
Using 3D lidar scanning , a detailed model of the terrain was created to assist in the design and placement of the houses . The resulting project tries to balance a high-degree of site utilization whilst reducing the amount of expensive groundwork and the projects overall environmental impact.
The windows in each house are placed to maximise views to the fjord whilst insuring privacy for the residents. The largest piece of glass in the project weighs half a tonne.
The ceilings feature exposed pine beams which balance the scale of the large spaces. They also serve to reduce sound reflectivity in the main social areas of the houses.
The four houses have variations in material palette, customized to owner preferences. The light ash joinery compliments the wood used in the ceilings, whilst the smoked oak provides contrast in the spaces.
